United States Lines & Neutrality
The United States Lines played a sly game when it came to circumventing the U.S. Neutrality Act. However, it was not the first American operator to do so. Many shipping companies preceded USL. The U.S. Maritime Commission published the following in November 1939 – a month before USL’s gambit to sell some of its fleet to a Norwegian firm – one in which USL had a significant amount of stock.
