kings point register

In 1944 the War Shipping Administration sponsored the publication of the first register of graduates of the United States Merchant Marine Cadet Corps and Kings Point. A second edition was published in June 1945 – just prior to Japan’s capitulation in August 1945. These publications relayed the aspiration of the organization to be called “Academy” by placing the Cadet Corps ostensibly on the same footing as graduates of the United States Naval Academy and the United States Coast Guard Academy which published similar registers of their graduates during the same period. Unfortunately, these were the only two registers published, despite aspiration to the contrary.

These documents are indispensable resources as they enumerate all known cadets and cadet-midshipmen who graduated or were otherwise released from either the United States Maritime Commission or United States Merchant Marine Cadet Corps. Of interest in the registers are notations regarding medals, deaths, assignments, and current positions held. They also hold information on class, program, and addresses of the graduates.

A searchable pdf of the second Register below is one of two known copies. Note: If using Chrome, a search will work natively; otherwise, download the pdf and search the contents using your pdf viewer. The document is 23MB. If you wish to download specific, individual pages, I have uploaded the Register to archive.org .
